Is California Gold Nutrition a Good Brand?
California Gold Nutrition is worth comparing for straightforward supplements, but judge the exact product rather than treating the brand as a quality guarantee. Its creatine, fish oil and LactoBif products raise different questions: ingredient identity, EPA/DHA amounts, and probiotic strains. A lower bottle price is useful only when the serving and formula match what you need.

Read the reviewCalifornia Gold Nutrition Vitamin D3 5000 IU
One softgel supplies 125 mcg vitamin D3, or 5,000 IU. That exceeds the US adult upper limit of 4,000 IU a day from all sources. Consider this higher amount only for an appropriate clinician-guided need, not as an automatic daily add-on. The reviewed bottle contains 90 fish-gelatin softgels.

For Sport Pure Creatine Monohydrate, start with the ingredient list and grams per serving. Compare plain monohydrate with plain monohydrate, not a flavored blend with different serving instructions. A creatine study does not verify the contents of a particular retail tub.
For Omega-3 Premium Fish Oil, add the EPA and DHA listed for the complete serving. The front-label fish-oil weight is not the same number. Use our fish oil versus algal oil comparison if the source matters more to you than the brand.
For LactoBif 5 and LactoBif 30, compare the strain list, count, storage instructions and intended use. A larger CFU number does not by itself establish a better result. The probiotics guide explains why.
What iTested does and does not tell you
iHerb describes iTested as a testing program. On a product listing, look for an actual report or verification record and check what it covers: identity, potency, contaminants, or a more limited set of measurements. Match the product and available batch information before treating the result as evidence about your bottle.
An iTested statement, a manufacturing-facility claim and a clinical study answer different questions. None establishes that every supplement from the brand is appropriate for you. Our third-party testing guide explains those distinctions.
How do you check a California Gold Nutrition testing claim?
Start at the exact product listing, not an iTested logo on a different bottle. Look for the report, laboratory, date, product and batch identifiers, then check which measurements were actually made. A report for protein powder cannot verify fish oil or a probiotic.
The iTested product collection is a way to find documentation; it is not a clinical endorsement. The LactoBif 30 label, for example, names eight species without the full strain identifiers needed to match many clinical studies. A larger live-bacteria count does not fill that gap.
The 2025 iron recall was a specific packaging issue
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of certain California Gold Nutrition iron supplements in 2025 because the packaging did not meet child-resistant requirements. That is a serious household safety issue, not evidence that every product from the brand was contaminated. Check the CPSC notice for the affected products and remedy. Keep all iron supplements out of children’s reach.
California Gold Nutrition or NOW: compare like with like
For a basic nutrient, put the complete labels side by side: active amount per serving, number of units, other ingredients, documented testing and delivered cost. A comparison of brand reputations cannot replace those checks. NOW Foods is another brand to examine, not an automatic upgrade or downgrade.
For example, a 120-capsule bottle taken four capsules at a time contains 30 full servings, not 120. Compare cost per relevant serving rather than the largest bottle or the lowest sticker price. The serving-size guide walks through the calculation.
Also reconsider whether you need the product. The reviewed 5,000 IU vitamin D3 is not a default daily choice: it exceeds the US adult routine upper limit of 4,000 IU before other sources are counted. A clinician-directed treatment plan is a different situation.
Common questions
Is California Gold Nutrition an iHerb brand?
Yes. It is sold as an iHerb house brand. That identifies the commercial relationship; it does not replace checking the individual formula, testing record or seller.
Is California Gold Nutrition third-party tested?
Look at the exact product and its available iTested documentation. Do not transfer a report from one formula or batch to the entire range.
Is the cheapest California Gold Nutrition bottle the best value?
Not necessarily. Compare the complete serving, active amount, usable supply and delivered price with a genuinely comparable product.
