Accessibility

Supplement Explained is designed to make supplement information easier to read, navigate, and understand across desktop, tablet, mobile, keyboard, and assistive-technology use. Accessibility is part of our publishing workflow, not an optional visual extra.

Our accessibility approach

We aim for clear structure, readable contrast, keyboard access, descriptive controls, useful alternative text, and layouts that work without requiring precise pointer movement. Automated checks support this work, but they do not replace manual review or feedback from people using assistive technology.

What we build and test for

  • Keyboard navigation: links, menus, search, buttons, calculators, and disclosure controls should be usable without a mouse.
  • Heading structure: pages use one main heading and descriptive section headings so readers can scan or navigate by landmark.
  • Readable presentation: text size, line spacing, contrast, focus states, and mobile layouts are checked as part of design changes.
  • Meaningful links: link text should describe the destination rather than relying on repeated labels such as “learn more.”
  • Images and media: important editorial images should include useful alternative text; decorative visuals should not carry essential information by themselves.
  • Reduced dependence on scripts: core educational content remains present in HTML even when optional interactive features are unavailable.

Known limitations

Some external retailer pages, embedded third-party services, linked documents, and social platforms are outside our control. A calculator or search enhancement may also behave differently in older browsers. When an interactive tool is not usable, the surrounding page should still explain its purpose, inputs, method, and safety limits in ordinary text.

Accessibility work is continuous. A page passing an automated test does not guarantee that every person or assistive-technology combination will have the same experience.

Report an accessibility problem

If a page, control, table, image, or tool is difficult to use, please contact Supplement Explained. Include the page URL, the problem you encountered, the device or assistive technology involved if you are comfortable sharing it, and the format that would help. We use these reports to prioritize practical corrections.

Update Note

This statement is reviewed when navigation, design, search, calculators, or publishing components change materially.
