Taurine is not caffeine, and this product is not a [proven human longevity treatment](https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-researchers-conclude-taurine-unlikely-be-good-aging-biomarker).

The [NOW label](https://www.nowfoods.com/products/supplements/taurine-double-strength-1000-mg-veg-capsules) is for adults and advises consulting a physician before use if you are pregnant or nursing, take medication, including blood-pressure medicines or diuretics, or have a medical condition. Do not use taurine instead of prescribed blood-pressure or heart care. The adult label should not be used to determine a dose for a pet.

## Check the strength and bottle size

The [manufacturer's label](https://www.nowfoods.com/products/supplements/taurine-double-strength-1000-mg-veg-capsules) lists 1,000 mg of free-form taurine per capsule. This bottle contains 100 vegetarian capsules and has UPC 733739001429. The other ingredients are hypromellose, vegetable-source stearic acid and silicon dioxide.

One gram and 1,000 mg mean the same amount. Check both strength and count when comparing listings: NOW's 500 mg, 100-capsule bottle has a different amount per capsule, while the 1,000 mg, 250-capsule bottle contains more capsules. Taurine powder is a separate format.

## Cost and bottle duration

On October 15, 2026, [HerbsPro listed the matching 100-capsule bottle](https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-101886474-15733504?sid=se-r10-20261015&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.herbspro.com%2Fproducts%2Ftaurine-100-caps) at $8.36 before tax and shipping. Dividing that price by 100 gives $0.0836 per capsule. That quote does not apply to the other bottle sizes or powder.

[NOW's directions](https://www.nowfoods.com/products/supplements/taurine-double-strength-1000-mg-veg-capsules) are one capsule 1-2 times daily with water or juice between meals. These are manufacturer directions, not a personalized dosing recommendation. Using those directions for arithmetic, the bottle would last 100 days at one capsule daily or 50 days at two, so it is not automatically a 100-day supply.

## What the aging research shows

Animal lifespan findings do not establish that taurine extends human life. Taurine's normal role in the body also does not prove that taking extra improves health in an otherwise healthy person. A [June 2025 NIH report](https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-researchers-conclude-taurine-unlikely-be-good-aging-biomarker) noted the lack of solid clinical evidence that taurine supplementation benefits human aging.

The longitudinal research described in that report found that circulating taurine often stayed constant or increased with age in humans, monkeys and mice. That undercuts the assumption that taurine universally declines with age and makes it an unreliable universal aging marker. The finding does not prove that every possible use of taurine supplements is ineffective, but it does weaken the case for treating aging as a simple taurine deficiency.

## Independent testing limits

The evidence available for this review does not include independent test results for a finished production lot. That is not evidence that the product failed testing. For broader manufacturer context, see our [NOW Foods brand review](https://supplementexplained.com/brands/now-foods/).

Our editorial assessment

## Supplement Explained Score

**64**/100

100 vegan capsules; Double Strength

Five equally weighted criteria. This is an editorial assessment, not customer stars, a clinical ranking or a measure of medical effectiveness.

**Label clarity **5/5****

The 1,000 mg free-form amount, one-capsule serving and 100-count UPC are explicit, unlike the separate 500 mg and 250-count variants.

**Research relevance **2/5****

Normal physiological roles and animal aging studies do not establish a useful longevity outcome from this finished product in humans.

**Safety and cautions **3/5****

The label calls for review with medicines, including antihypertensives and diuretics, medical conditions and pregnancy/nursing. It is not a substitute for cardiovascular care.

**Testing and quality checks **2/5****

No independently matched finished-lot potency and contaminant result was verified. Public testing-method descriptions alone do not show that this bottle passed.

**Value for money **4/5****

The matched $8.36/100 offer is about $0.084 per 1 g capsule, a simple unit cost with a modest serving burden, not proof that supplementation is needed.

Based on published information, not personal use or laboratory testing by us. Missing testing documentation is not evidence of contamination. Where label versions remain unresolved, the points reflect that limitation rather than assuming a complete current formula.
