[Jarrow Methyl B-12 5000 mcg](https://jarrow.com/products/methyl-b-12-cherry-5000-mcg-chewable-tablets) is a high-strength, B12-only cherry chewable sold in a 90-count bottle. Its lack of added folate may make it a better fit than a B12+folate formula when you want B12 alone, but [5,000 mcg is not a routine daily requirement](https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminB12-HealthProfessional/).

If you suspect B12 deficiency, especially with neurological symptoms, seek medical evaluation and discuss [B12 testing](https://supplementexplained.com/labs/b12-testing-explained/) rather than self-treating. [Jarrow advises consulting a healthcare professional before use](https://jarrow.com/products/methyl-b-12-cherry-5000-mcg-chewable-tablets) if you are pregnant or nursing, under 18, taking medicines, or have a medical condition. [Metformin and acid-suppressing medicines can affect B12 status](https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminB12-HealthProfessional/); discuss them with your clinician, but do not stop or change them on your own.

## Check the exact formula

The [Jarrow label](https://jarrow.com/products/methyl-b-12-cherry-5000-mcg-chewable-tablets) lists 5,000 mcg of vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin per chewable tablet. The cherry 90-count bottle has UPC 790011180289. It is distinct from Jarrow's Methyl B-12 + Methyl Folate formulas and its 1,000- and 2,500-mcg B12 versions. If your plan calls for both B12 and folate, this bottle does not supply the folate component.

The other ingredients are xylitol, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, natural flavor, citric acid, magnesium stearate, and silica. Consider the cherry flavor and the inclusion of xylitol and citric acid against your taste and ingredient preferences. These label details do not tell you whether you will enjoy the taste.

## What the 5,000-mcg dose means

The [NIH lists an adult recommended dietary allowance of 2.4 mcg of B12](https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminB12-HealthProfessional/), far below the amount in this tablet. Jarrow's labeled adult use is one chewable daily, but that direction does not establish that everyone needs 5,000 mcg. B12 has no established upper intake limit; that also does not establish a need for this strength.

A high Daily Value percentage is not a measure of how much energy you will gain. Extra B12 has not been shown to improve energy in people whose B12 status is already adequate.

## Methylcobalamin and sublingual claims

The [NIH review of B12 supplements](https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminB12-HealthProfessional/) does not establish an absorption advantage for methylcobalamin over other supplemental B12 forms. It also finds no evidence that sublingual delivery is more effective than oral B12. Neither the methyl form nor taking B12 under the tongue is a proven reason to expect a better result.

## Price and potency evidence

On October 15, 2026, [HerbsPro listed the matching 90-count bottle](https://www.dpbolvw.net/click-101886474-15733504?sid=se-r07-20261015&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.herbspro.com%2Fproducts%2Fmethyl-b12-methylcobalamin-228166) at $26.99 before tax and shipping, or about $0.30 per tablet. HerbsPro calls it a lozenge while Jarrow calls it a chewable. That wording does not identify a different strength; check the UPC to confirm the product match.

No lot-specific potency report has been verified for this review. The 5,000-mcg amount discussed here is the manufacturer's label declaration, not an independently confirmed measurement from a particular batch.

For the nutrient-level decision, see our [vitamin B12 guide](https://supplementexplained.com/supplements/vitamin-b12/). If you are comparing a formula with added folate, the [NOW 5,000 mcg B12 lozenge](https://supplementexplained.com/products/now-methyl-b12-5000-mcg-120-lozenges/) has a different ingredient panel; the same B12 amount does not make the formulas interchangeable.

Our editorial assessment

## Supplement Explained Score

**68**/100

90 cherry chewable tablets; no added folate

Five equally weighted criteria. This is an editorial assessment, not customer stars, a clinical ranking or a measure of medical effectiveness.

**Label clarity **5/5****

The current cherry 90-count formula specifies 5,000 mcg methylcobalamin and other ingredients, without confusing it with Jarrow's added-folate version.

**Research relevance **3/5****

B12 supports correcting inadequate status, but the methyl form, high amount and chewable route do not establish superior absorption or energy benefits in a replete person.

**Safety and cautions **3/5****

The large amount is not an adult daily requirement. Deficiency symptoms and medicine-related status questions require assessment; xylitol and citric acid also affect format choice.

**Testing and quality checks **2/5****

No independently matched finished-lot potency and contaminant documentation was verified; a brand reference guide is not a laboratory result.

**Value for money **4/5****

The $26.99/90 offer is about $0.300 per label tablet with no swallowed-capsule burden. Value still depends on actually needing this amount.

Based on published information, not personal use or laboratory testing by us. Missing testing documentation is not evidence of contamination. Where label versions remain unresolved, the points reflect that limitation rather than assuming a complete current formula.
